Captain Don and First Mate Madie are great! They are super-hard workers who put us on fish each time we've gone out with them. They have the equipment, experience and connections to get you where you need to be to catch fish.
Marina is well maintained, clean, and staff very accommodating. The only problem is the wakes from incoming and outgoing boats. There is no enforcement of excessive wakes. It's not just the charter fishing boats but also the recreational ones who seem oblivious to their wakes caused by excessive speed.
Not sure what it's like now but when I had my boat at the marina, for over 8 years, the slip holders were treated like second hand citizens and pretty much like crap! All they were interested in was the people putting money into their slot machines, which I did thousands of dollars a year, one year was over $40,000 (I know. Stupid me. I know the approximate amount because my wife added it up, based on my ATM withdrawals). The management at the marina were TOTAL jerks and had some kind of power trip or acted jealous because they had to work while us boater's we're having fun. Not exactly sure what their problem was but hopefully they have changed things, to include management. Majority of my friends have moved to Herrington Harbor South, at least 30% of the slip holders at one time and have found a true paradise marina, which management bends over backwards to make sure we are taken care of and are happy. Can't say enough about HHS but there is absolutely NO comparison to Marina West and Rod N Reel Marina, other than night and day difference.
Captains are all experianced and work together to assure everyone gets a good day fishing. Damn smart of the captains to do that as people keep coming back. They also sponser fishing trips for disabled vets. That alone to me is worth goung here.
Great price for chartering a fishing excursion. Need to specify to the charter captain that you want to fish for the medium- and trophy-sized fish.
